We, humans, are capable of doing some amazing things. Our greatness is often expressed in a form of buildings. A fair amount of them are well-known, of course – museums, churches, operas, stadiums, bridges or temples whose replicas live on in souvenir shops, books, and countless photos. Some of them became defining symbols of a particular ear, city or even entire nation.
Although, personally, lighthouses are my favourite landmarks, but this is probably the image of the Kylemore Abbey, which will remain as the most iconic and photogenic structure on the entire Wild Atlantic Way.
This fairy-tale like Benedictine monastery founded in 1920 on the grounds of Kylemore Castle, in Connemara, County Galway, is a silent witness of the past, and it attracts for various reasons – its architectural charm and fantastic setting at the base of Druchruach Mountain on the northern shore of Lough Pollacappul.
The weather was cooperating, so we were lucky enough to grab some nice photo shots.
