It was going to be one of those days, when the warmth of the sun is like a balsam, and where a light jacket is sufficient. We headed to the northernmost tip of Åland, and once we were taking a hike on the Troll Path trail, the finest view on the entire journey was suddenly revealed. The full majestic spread of the Baltic Sea was laid out down the hill – a breath-taking display of natural beauty, the sort of scenery that lifts the spirit. There was not a soul to be seen, and the only thing I could feel while looking over the lush forest, blue sea and dramatic coastline was a sense of awe and wonder.
Every inch of Åland is worth exploring to the fullest, and we would gladly linger here for another two or three days, but our boat back to Stockholm was departing tomorrow. Known for its unspoiled nature, the archipelago offers a unique escape from the modern world – it’s a stunning heaven, and I’ll be looking for opportunities to return there. And I know we will one day.
