Oh, boy! This day was starting out right. Morning brought the gift of sunshine, and we were ready to immerse ourselves in the rugged beauty of Wild Nephin Ballycroy National Park in Co. Mayo. So, off we went on a 2.5 hours hike on this delightful Sunday.
The 10 kilometres loop brought us through the bank of the Altaconey River, mountain tracks, sandy paths and forestry roads. Although the hike is marked as ‘hard’ and suited to walkers with higher-than-average levels of fitness, there were no serious climbs or descents, but some muddy or rocky sections needing good hiking boots.
We strolled slowly, enjoying the surroundings, sometimes laughing and giggling, sometimes walking in silence each lost in our own thoughts.
The blend of nature, family and togetherness made the day special.
