The sheer size of Canada, spreading across a total of six times zones, means that vast areas of the country are either completely uninhabited or sparsely populated with small communities and occasional farms flashing past. Along the way, it’s not uncommon to see the freight trains stretching for hundreds of metres – just like there in Jasper, sometimes even for as much as an unbelievable four kilometres.
No other mode of transportation symbolizes Canada better than those behemoths rolling through the Rocky Mountains and prairies. They are part of the landscape. You can watch them in awe, and the feeling remains long after the freight train passed by.
