The so called ‘sacred’ places don’t actually do anything at all on their own. On their own, they don’t make the world a better place. But they stand for or represent something. They remind us of what’s important. They can trigger us to be in the right state of mind, they can help us to tap into our intuition and to see the unseen.
For thousands of years people climbed Croagh Patrick in County Mayo for various reasons. In the pagan times, it’s believed that they used to gather on its summit to celebrate the beginning of the harvest season. Later, to honour Saint Patrick, the patron and national apostle of Ireland, who, according to folklore, fasted and prayed on the summit for forty days.
Whatever the reason, the tradition of pilgrimage to the holy mountain of Ireland keeps alive.
Strange and enigmatic mountain.
