The alarm woke us up at 5:30AM. An hour later we were on our way. Ahead of us was 200 km drive to Kopmanholmen where we were to jump on the 9AM-ferry to the island of Ulvön situated at the heart of the High Coast.
In the year 2000 the High Coast was included in the World Heritage List of UNESCO for its unique and spectacular scenic land and seascape. In the south, it starts in Harnosand and stretches over dizzying landscape up to Ornskoldsvik in the north. The terrain includes many mountainous summits, as well as valleys deep down in the waters of archipelago. It’s hard to imagine that this land was once covered by a few kilometres thickness of ice.
I usually get sick on boats, but the sea was quite calm, so the two hours flew by without that sick feeling in the stomach. On our way to Ulvön the ferry stopped in Trysunda, a small fishing village, considered one of the Sweden’s most beautiful islands. This small settlement located deep inside a narrow, arched bay, looked as if it was taken from a fairy-tale.
