From the great world of wonders, I think that this is the Geokaun Mountain on the Valentia Island in County Kerry that will probably remain in my mind as the quintessence of what the Wild Atlantic Way has on offer. I couldn’t encompass the entire picture in one glance, but wherever I turned a great...

Allure
Although I’ve been living in Ireland for over a decade, I’m ashamed to say I knew not much about its natural treasures before we embarked on our voyage. I traveled around the world, together with Sylwia we did a road trip in Montana in the US, lived at a stone’s throw from New York, spent...
Caribbean vacation
The Coomikista Pass on the Ring of Kerry was another of the beautiful sections of the Wild Atlantic Way. My eyes would have swallowed it whole if they could, so we had to stop a lot to photograph picture postcard views. White sand beaches, turquoise waters and green vegetation, a clear sky with just a...
Beach-time
Regardless of age or anything else, the beach-time under the blue sky heightens the joys of being alive. It’s a simple but wonderful little pleasure, isn’t it? So, it was always a joy to get off the car and get some beach-time at the marvellous beaches dotting the coastline like the Derrynane one in County...
Magic forces
There is no question about the fact that the Wild Atlantic Way is a land of incredible beauty. So, what else can I say? That the grass is green? That sheep are white or black? That there are plenty of opportunities to sit on its countless lovely beaches with feet covered with sand? That the...
Tight bends
The side road to the Lamb’s Head on the Ring of Kerry was a thrilling series of tight bends. It rose slowly, but then the angle of the hills became steeper. Soon we were staring at dramatic rock formations and marvelous vistas under a glorious blue sky.
Celebratory picture
We stopped for an hour or so at the lovely White Strand Beach just before the village of Castlecove at the Ring of Kerry, took celebratory picture and moved on.
As the bird flies
The Wild Atlantic Way shoots slowly north from Kinsale to Derry, or the other way around. In the straight line the towns are mere 400 kilometres apart as the bird flies, but its actual distance is over six times greater, so this gives you an idea that something fairly extraordinary is going on there. The...
The Atlantic Ocean
The Atlantic Ocean. Sometimes an intense turquoise with gentle white splashes. Another time wild and expressing itself with a spectacular power of waves crushing onto the rocky shore and disintegrating in fantastic explosions of spray, just like there at the Dursey Sound at the Beara Peninsula in County Cork.
Great affair
Working our way through the Beara Peninsula in County Cork we took a short break at Gour viewpoint to enjoy breath-taking surrounding countryside and Bantry Bay. There were so many amazing vistas that awaited around each corner or from the top of each hill, that it was simply hard to pick where to stop. And...
